BHUTAN DAY 01: “Welcome” to PARO

We dive into the new world and familiarize ourselves with the slowness and ease of the Bhutanese way of life! Despite the airport, Paro has retained its idyllic nature. Paro, it is said, was the first valley that came into contact with Buddhism. The temples Kyichu and Taktshang, the tiger's nest, bear witness to this. We will visit both, as well as the Paro monastery castle and the town itself with the small, pretty souvenir shops, in the Bhutanese style.

DAY 02: PUNAKHA

Punakha was the country's winter capital for over 300 years and is situated at an altitude of around 1350m. Punakha is still the winter residence of the monks, they move here from Thimphu for 6 months. Because the climate here is mild and pleasant in winter. We visit the PUNAKHA DZONG, the most important dzong of Bhutan. It includes 21 temples. The coronation festivities of the young 5th King Jingme Khesar Nangyel Wangchuck (2008) and his marriage to the pilot's daughter JETSUM PEMA were celebrated there. The History of the Punakha Dzong:

Master Guru Rinpoche blessed this hill in the 8th century and prophesied that a man named Namgyal would build a fortress on the front part of the hill which looks like an elephant's trunk.

DAY 03: THE CHORTEN OF THE QUEEN MOTHER ASHI

Nice hike to the Queen Mother Ashi Chortens. We start at the suspension bridge, hike through a rural idyll and then, when we reach the top, have a breathtaking view of the Punakha valley.

DAY 04: "The crazy Divine" DRIVE TO PHOBJIKA VALLY

We visit the place of pilgrimage Lobeysa. He is famous for his many painted phalli on the house walls. It is a place of pilgrimage for barren women. Hike across fields and meadows to the "Temple of the Black Dog" from the 15th century, the "Crazy Divine!" or Chime-Ihakhang, as it is actually called. Continue to Pobjikha.

DAY 05: VALLEY OF THE CRANES - PHOBJIKA VALLY

It is one of Bhutan's few glacial valleys and quite swampy in places. ARE THE CRANES HERE YET? These elegant and shy birds can be admired here from the end of October. They migrate here from the Tibetan plateau to escape the harsh winter and then fly back to Tibet in the spring. The king caused the power lines to go underground. He didn't want to see a single crane hurt or dead!

We visit the NYINGMAPA MONASTERY in GANGTEY and then take a wonderful hike through the forest into the valley. (2 to 3 hours) The valley is one of the most beautiful parts of Bhutan. The monastery is the only Nyingmapa (red hat) monastery on the west side of the black mountains and at the same time the largest in all of Bhutan. It is directed by the TULKU of the 9th reincarnation.

DAY 06: OVER THE DOCHU - LA PASS TO THIMPHU

On the way to Thimphu, the capital of the country, you will cross the Dochu - La pass. It is known for its 108 stupas arranged in a circle and the beautiful distant view of the mountains of the Himalayas. If time permits we visit the symbol of Bhutan, the GOLDEN BUDDHA, 8 km outside of THIMPHU

DAY 07: THIMPHU, THE CAPITAL

We visit the "SCHOOL OF ART", a quaint, small PAPER MANUFACTURE with beautiful handmade paper, the new TEXTILE MUSEUM, the national animal of Bhutan, the Takin in the ZOO and the Memorial Chorten.

DAY 08:Full day excursion:

We hike to the most famous monastery in Bhutan, the "TIGERNEST"   at an altitude of 3,200m. It was built high on a rocky outcrop by Guru Rinpoche.

He miraculously came flying on the back of a tigress in the 8th century. According to Bhutanese tradition, one of the Master's wives assumed the form of a tiger for the occasion. He meditated in a cave in Taktshang for 3 months and converted the Paro Valley to Buddhism.
